T. S. Flanders discusses why the virtues of prudence, justice, and charity are vital when forming judgments. This is applied to the current controversy regarding the SSPX and the direction of our apostolate.

Uniting Catholics against the enemies of Holy Church
Have just had a wonderful experience with the sspx Priests. Went to one Mass two months ago and was put on the home visit list for Confession and Holy Communion. This Priest has had to travel about 800 kilometers round trip to do this for about 15 souls, today,Sunday, 26th April! The Church and its stand on the sspx Society as Bishop Athanasius Schneider, after seeing his talk with Taylor Marshal, confirmed, that if a priest can hear Confession, say a nuptual Mass, how can he be excommunicated for performing the same Sacramental duties at any time? Their only difference as far as can be known is that the sspx society will not do the Novus Ordo Mass, and are therefore deemed outside the norm of acceptance at a canonical level. Knowing that the Novus Ordo Mass is the 180 degree turn from the True Catholic, Holy and Apostolic Church, there can be no doubt who are the ones that should be excommunicated. As far as Judgement goes, surely we in a prideless way must adhere to the knowledge that Divine Justice must run its course, and that God alone, either through victim souls whom HE chooses, if the world is worthy of them, or if chastisements are God’s just way of converting the world which no longer can benefit from these souls, whatever the position we are placed in in the eyes of God, the sure way would be to accept all as a Christ lives in me approach, and therefor whether He judges through us, wether He is placated in us, surely we let Him do what He wants to bring about salvation for souls, which is exactly what He did on earth according to His Fathers Will. Prudence, Charity, good Will are all the virtues that Jesus Christ performs in us, and we must respond by knowing and letting Him be the only operating force in us. If we do this, even if we fail, we must not own it but give it to HIM WHO has it all worked out in HIS DIVINE AND HOLY WILL. THese sspx Priests are so Holy, they blast the soul with Graces and Blessings, which is the reason God gave them to us, to perpetuate His Life on earth as it is in Heaven. May the Divine Will descend quickly into all hearts and souls. Archbishop Lefebrve, pray for us. Good talk.
I would like to thank Mr. Flanders for his thoughtful comments on this topic. Given the nature of this post, I would like to point out to Bernadette that her comment above which says: “Knowing that the Novus Ordo Mass is the 180 degree turn from the True Catholic, Holy and Apostolic Church, there can be no doubt who are the ones that should be excommunicated.” …is exactly the lack of prudence, justice, and charity which is being warned against. I hope that my pointing this out is not seen as a lack of charity on my part. There are many holy men and women who have been formed during this time of the Novus Ordo Mass and also many priests who also celebrate the Novus Ordo mass that have been working hard for the True, Good, and Beautiful in addition to the SSPX priest whom you mentioned. Your zeal is laudable, but I think you should give our faithful brothers and sisters in the Novus Ordo crowd some credit and be careful about how you phrase the above comment.
Karl,
If I understand you correctly, brother, I certainly agree with the thrust of your comments—-ANY lack of charity between TLM goers, Novus Ordo, SSPX or ANY faithful can be an act of schism, since this sin is a sin against charity and against the unity of the Church. I can’t speak for Bernadette, but I can say that we need to draw a distinction between a debate about the issues with the New Rite on the one hand, and the souls of those who receive or offer all Sacraments in the New Rite. Certainly we can debate about the former, whereas the latter is beyond question no one’s right to pronounce judgement. Thus we need to be careful that we do maintain that charity and try to understand and forgive each other, without minimizing the difficulties of course and being honest about the debate. That’s the purpose of our apostolate.
Christ is risen!
Timothy
Dear Timothy, i can not agree enough with your talk. Can you send me a link with all the magisterial documents? I am having difficulties convincing our Priest that from the pulpit accuses people from my community for attending SSPX mass as committing a mortal sin. Unfortunately, it seems that these attitudes are very divisive.
