Hi again it is interesting that you recommended a book that I recommend also, by RevCahill. I found it on Archive.org. I own “Liberty the God that failed” as well. However, when you discuss in very simple terms the History of politics I have not come across in any book that covers this. Do you have a book to recommend that outlines what you have outlined in this talk? I am teaching my 10 th child and am determined to teach the last three girls better than the first 9. Margaret is planning to read the Cahill book, she has also read the guillotine and the cross and working on the 70 years of the communist revolution. The simple histories put out by Catholic publishers certainly do not simply put down the essential details of these political system of the so called Middle Ages.
Hi Carmen. My talk is based on a number of sources, not all one. But if you give me more specific needs, I can recommend a specific source.
I am trying to explain simply what is a catholic culture is to my children. I hope they will be able to recognize this anti-culture. I am looking for a simple history (adolescence- adult) that shows how Catholic culture has shaped our world simply like your explanation in your simple lectures on the social and political orders history.
.
The homeschooling curriculum is polluted with anti culture. I wish you would write a home school curriculum for Social Studies/ Political Science for young adults.
Families need a crash course in real political/ social history, so that their Catholic young adults do not become indoctrinated (without any questions or arguments) into this anti-culture. They are being fed this in our secular schools. Today Margaret was asked to comment on this quote by John Dewey“ Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” She was distressed that her peers were all agreeing with this idea. Even a girl she knows from a traditional catholic family had no idea how to comment on this quote.with out sounding like she is an atheist.
Margaret wrote “I do not agree with the quote from John Dewey, education is not life. My parents have given me my life through God’s good providence. They have given me their culture and tradiotions, and the gift of the Catholic faith. My mom told me that it was her job to teach me to “Know the truth, do the good, and make the beautiful.” The definition of education from the Oxford dictionary is, “the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction” life is not just learing, it is much more and we must use our intelects and talents to do ”good and make the beautiful” we must also teach ourselves and others the truth. Furthermore, it is key that education is “good” and that the truth is taught, otherwise the instruction in something that is entirely wrong and inmmoral is detrimental to life. The reality is that the instruction in the erroneous would likely led to the death of your soul.”
Can you help?
Also what book on Art did you speak about by Chris Dawson? I remember thinking he wrote well on the subject years back. Art is another subject Margaret is taking. It is totally corrupted as well.
Hello sister! You are hitting on the very subject of my upcoming book for TAN, which will be published next year. It will be an accessible one volume work of Church history which goes over these periods and provides the ordinary layperson with all the tools they need for this, including the art, which is crucial. For now, reading anything by Christopher Dawson will help, you can start with Making of Europe but he is absolutely excellent. In terms of homeschooling though it is more difficult to find texts that are easier for them to access. Charles Coloumbe’s Puritan’s Empire is an excellent American history which is accessible for high schoolers. Cahill’s Framework of a Christian State is another essential text, but it is more college level. Hope that helps!
Peace Brother Timothy.! Would you write questions and discussion booklet to go with the book/ with answer key you are publishing for Tan? I also need to become a patron, so I can get your book on the Introduction to the Bible. Really enjoy your discussions. Thank so much for your effort.
Hello brother. Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately I don’t think I will get to that anytime soon. Are you a teacher?
Based! Well done! I really enjoyed the series.
Thanks brother God bless!
